Brake Controller And Wiring Adapter Recommendation For 1998 Ford F-150 With Factory 4-Way

Question:

My 98 f150 has a plug in for a brake controller but it only has a 4 pole connector at the rear. I want to tow a one axle trailer with electric brakes. Can I simply install part #118242 and a brake controller and be able to use the trailer brakes?

The Ford Replacement OEM Tow Package Wiring Harness, part # 118242 is exactly what you need to get a 7-way connector at the back of your 98 F-150.

For a brake controller I recommend the Prodigy P2, part # 90885. This is our most popular brake controller because it is easy to install and operate.

To plug this in to the port located under your dash I recommend part # 3035-P. One end simply plugs into the port on the vehicle and the other into the back of the brake controller.

I have attached a link to an installation video for the P2 and the # 118242 adapter you can check out.

When working with electrical connectors I recommend using dielectric grease like part # 11755. This keeps dirt and moisture out of the electrical connections and helps prevent corrosion.
