Cargo Carrier Option for 2009 Ford Flex That Allows Rear Hatch to Open

Question:

I am wondering if the hatch would open with the carpod installed and the side walls up on a 2009 Ford Flex?

The Carpod Walled cargo carrier you referenced, part # M2205 would not allow you to open the rear hatch of your Ford Flex unless the front, rear and side walls were folded down.

The only cargo carrier we offer that I can guarantee will allow you to fully open your rear hatch would be the Yakima EXO Swing Away Enclosed Cargo Carrier - 2" Hitches - 10 cu ft - 100 lbs # Y62VR. As the name implies, the carrier will swing away toward the passenger side of the vehicle enough so that the rear hatch can be opened.

Another alternative would be to use a standard cargo carrier like part # C18151 along with a cargo bag like part # 988501. With the bag removed, you'd be able to open the rear hatch with no trouble whatsoever. The bag has a maximum capacity of 20 cubic feet, is very rugged and is very highly rated by our customers as you can see by the reviews on the product page.

I've linked you to some product demonstration videos, I hope you'll find them helpful.
