Compatibility of Transmission Cooler with Automatic Transmission on 2006 Toyota Corolla

Question:

So i am thinking about a automatic transmission cooler for my 2006 toyota corolla. I tow a small trailer 40x48 and I watch the weight. I just wondered why your listing only went to 2005 on the corolla.

You will want to install the cooler on the return line. You can identify which one is the return by starting out with the engine cold, starting it, shifting into gear for about 10-seconds and then back to park, then shutting the engine off. Feel the two lines; the cooler one is the return line.

Please note that when you add a cooler like Derale # D13611 (or a larger one) that is confirmed to fit your car you naturally also add a requirement for additional fluid. Toyota insists that only their approved transmission fluid (type T-IV) be used or potential damage to the transmission can result.

According to the online owner's manual for the 2006 Corolla the car has a 1500-lb towing capacity. Your small utility trailer would not likely hold enough weight to stress your transmission to the point that a cooler is needed, especially since you carefully keep track of the weight load. As long as the combined weight of the trailer and its contents remains well under the car's limit you are probably okay to tow without installing a cooler.
