Trailer Hitch and Bike rack Recommendations for a 2011 Toyota Avalon
Question:
Am looking at the Thule OutWay as an option of transporting two adult hybrid bicycles. Was told that without trimming and cutting, a hitch mount for this vehicle was not an option. Don't like the idea of a roof mount so the trunk mount appears the way to go. Would your recommendation be that the Thule Outway is the best solution for two bikes or are there other better ones. Thanks

If you decide to go with a trunk mounted carrier then the Thule OutWay # TH45JV is absolutely the best option for your Avalon. I own a version of this carrier and it is by far the easiest trunk mount carrier I have used. What makes it so great, besides the only 2 straps, upgraded cradling system and built-in locking features, is the retractable cable mechanism.
This carrier now uses only 2 retractable cables that store inside the rack. This makes installing and removing the rack faster and easier. I have included a link to a video review of this carrier for you.
If you go with the OutWay and will be carrying any bikes that do not have a top frame bar that goes straight across (like a typical men's bike would) then I recommend using bike adapter bar # 64005. This will allow you to carry those bikes more level and will provide better ground clearance. I have to use these adapters and without them my wife's bike would be at a severe angle and I would not be able to load my son's bike at all. I have linked a video showing how the adapter works.
