Brake Controller Recommendation for a 2009 Acura MDX with 7-Way
Question:
I have a 2009 Acura MDX and Im looking to get an electronic brake controller. I have a factory hitch and wiring harness, as well as the factory pig tail for a controller. I was hoping you might be able to suggest a controller. From what Ive read it looks like I will have to splice the factory pig tail with the brake controllers wiring, does that sound about right? Thanks for your help.

To connect a brake controller like the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Brake Controller, part # 90195, to your 2009 Acura MDX you will need to hardwire the included pigtail wiring harness directly to the factory four wire harness that plugs into your factory brake controller port. The wires will connect color to color, red to red, blue to blue, black to black, and white to white. The Honda wiring harness will not work.
The P3 brake controller that I mentioned is the nicest brake controller available, it is a proportional controller that can sense the amount of braking your tow vehicle is applying and will apply a relative amount to the trailer brakes.
I do not have a brake controller wiring harness available for a 2009 Acura MDX that will plug into a factory brake controller port on the vehicle and plug into the Prodigy P3 brake controller.
I would also recommend to check the 7-Way and 4-Way connector on your vehicle to make sure it is connected and working properly and to also check to see if any fuses will be needed for your tow package setup.
I am including a link to a FAQ page on brake controllers.
