Will LED Lights on 5th Wheel Trailer Work with 2007 GMC Sierra Tow Package Wiring

Question:

I want to put LED tail turn stop lights on my camper but my tow vehicle has incandesent bulbs. Will the camper LEDs function or will I have to alter the flasher circuit from my truck to the camper? I use a 2007.5 GMC for my tow vehicle. I thought since the camper is powered through the fifth wheel plug that the small load of the LEDs wouldnt make a difference.

You should not have to change anything on your 2007 GMC Sierra in order to tow a trailer with newly installed LED lights. In the event that the lights on the trailer do not light up or you get a hyper flash situation with the turn signals there is an easy fix.

You could use a special adapter, # 20142, which will increase the load on the tow package wiring allowing the lights to work properly. Or you could install load resistors # DI34ZR on each affected circuit in line on the trailer wiring.

The tow package wiring on your truck is independent of the tail lights so the type of bulbs used on the truck will not be an issue. I should also add that I have not heard of any issues regarding trailers with LED lights and GM tow package wiring but in the off chance there is an issue either of the fixes above would solve it.
