Comparing Thule Gateway and Thule Passage Trunk Mount Bike Racks for 2012 Chevrolet Traverse

Question:

Looking at a couple bike carrier options for my 2012 Chevy Traverse. Planning light, occasional use for two bikes. What is the difference between the Thule Gateway rakes and the Thule Passage ones? Thanks!

Both the Thule Gateway # TH88VR and the Thule Passage # TH910XT are high quality bike racks that will fit your 2012 Chevy Traverse. The main difference between these racks is that the arms on the Gateway rack are able to be adjusted independently. Both racks have arms that fold down for storage, but the Gateway's arms adjust to allow you to carry some alternative frame bikes without an adapter bar. However, some alternative, children's, and women's style frames may still require an adapter bar, such as Thule's # TH982XT.

Another difference in these racks is the distance between the arms on the racks. The Passage's carrier arms are 14 inches apart, while the Gateway's arms are a bit closer together at 12 inches. With the Gateway's arms being closer together, children's and some alternative frame bikes will go on easier. An adapter bar will also help make loading and unload these bikes easier.

The Passage weighs a few pounds less than the Gateway.

Both carriers have room to carry two bikes and have a 70 pound weight capacity. Either carrier will work well for you 2012 Chevy Traverse.

I have included product review videos for both of these trunk bike racks for you.
