Parts Needed to Flat Tow a 2010 Honda Pilot Behind a Motor Home
Question:
Im wonder if the Reese 63180 would be a good low cost option ? If so what low cost base plate option would work with this ? Thanks.

When it comes to flat towing a vehicle, I would not recommend Tow Ready tow bar # 63180. This tow bar is only rated for 45 miles per hour and is not very functional. Plus the brackets that come with it (you wouldn't need to add any) are going to require extensive custom installation to the point where the savings from using this tow bar will be cancelled out.
It is much better and safer to use custom installation parts. I can make some recommendations and keep the total cost down as low as I can.
First, for base plates that attach to the 2010 Honda Pilot I recommend # BX2251. Out of the options for your Pilot these are the lower cost model.
For a compatible tow bar, if the Pilot's gross weight is under 5,000 pounds, you can use # BX7322. this is going to be the lowest cost option that doesn't have a low speed rating. And you will need safety cables, # BX88196.
For lighting you can use a magnetic light kit # RM-2120 or, for a more permanent solution, our installers prefer the bulb and socket kit # RM-155. Either of these will bypass the vehicle wiring. It also looks like you will have to pull a fuse to flat tow the Pilot. Consult the vehicle owners manual to confirm. You could either pull and reinstall this fuse manually every time. Or you can install fuse bypass # RM76511 and allow or remove power from the fuse with the flip of a switch.
And finally, most states now require supplemental braking on the vehicle being flat towed, which is the item that will cost the most. One of the preferred systems for our installers and one of the least costly is the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO proportional system, # SM99251. It will apply the vehicle brakes in proportion to how much the tow vehicle is braking. This is the safest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles.
