Recommendation for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch and Installation Kit for 2011 Dodge Ram 1500
Question:
I have a 2011 Ram Longhorn 1500, 5.7 hemi longbed.. I plan to tow a 5th wheeler. What is the max hitch weight I can safely carry. I am looking at a trailer with 7500 lb dry weight and a hitch weight of 1650. Would this be ok and safe. thanks

To determine if the truck can handle the weight of the trailer, check the owners manual or your Ram dealer for the towing capacity and weight carrying capacity of the bed and compare that to the gross trailer weight and pin weight. If you determine the truck can tow the trailer I recommend going with Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # RP30047. Reese is the industry leader in fifth wheel hitches and makes excellent products. This hitch is rated for 16000 lbs.
I would also go with custom installation kit, # RP50142-58. Installation is much easier over a universal kit because the brackets are custom made to fit the frame of your truck so there is much less drilling involved.
I have included a link to the installation instructions for the Reese kit for you to view.
