Expert Reply:

A converter or modulite box should not be present on your 1998 Ford Expedition. Converters are required for vehicles with separate turn and tail lights, and modulite wiring is required for vehicles that cannot power a trailer directly from their tail light circuits. Neither would apply to your Expedition.

To wire your vehicle for towing, you would be able to use a simple plug in T-connector style wiring harness. We offer T-connector # 118344 for the 1998 Expedition models.

The # 118344 wiring harness installs by plugging in behind your tail light assemblies.

I have included a link to the installation instructions, so you can get a better idea of how the wiring will connect to your vehicle.
