2013 Edge Hitch Recommendation for Camper Towing

Question:

Hello, my Edge can tow max 3500lbs w/350lbs. Ive seen videos from CanAM RV in Ontario, Canada that these vehicle types can tow a 30ft Airstream if properly outfitted with weight distribution systems. Now most 30fters weigh about 5000+ lbs w/500 hitch. May I believe such a claim?

You can only tow as heavy of a trailer as the owners manual of your vehicle states. Typically there are two capacities listed though. A lower capacity for towing a trailer without weight distribution and a higher capacity listed for with weight distribution.

All of the hitches we carry for your 2013 Ford Edge like the # 75592 have the same 400 lb tongue weight and 4,000 lb trailer weight capacity with or without a WD system.

Your best option would be to check the owners manual of your Edge to determine it's towing capacity and go with a trailer that weighs less than that.

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You will want the loaded tongue weight of your setup to fall right in the middle of the tongue weight range of the system you use.

For a similar WD system to the # 49570 that you referenced that would have a better tongue weight range for the trailers you would be able to tow you would want the # PS49901 as it will work with tongue weights up to 550 lbs.

For trailer wiring you would want the part # 118515.
