If the battery disconnect you are using is electrically controlled then make sure that it is connected to a 12 volt circuit that has power when the ignition is turned on. On many vehicles you can use the radio fuse/circuit. Also some solenoids must have a good ground either through the mounting hardware or on a separate ground terminal. In either case the ground location must be clean and free of corrosion.
