Troubleshooting Vehicle And Trailer Wiring When Tail Lights Do Not Work
Question:

Many times the problem with trailer lights not working is the ground. You want to make sure the ground wire for the vehicle and the trailer are secured to a clean, bare metal surface. You want to make sure all of the lights on the trailer are properly grounded as well.
You will want to check all of the pins on the vehicle with a circuit tester like part # PTW2993. Have someone run through the functions while you check each pin.
If everything checks out okay on the vehicle you can then check the wiring on the trailer for any signs of damage or corrosion.
I have attached links to a couple helpful articles and a video you can check out.
