Can Thule Passage Trunk Mounted 3 Bike Rack # TH911XT Carry 20 Inch Bike on 2010 Toyota Prius

Question:

We have a 20inch kids vintage bike with training wheels and thick frame bars. Ive heard trunk mounted bike racks dont fit 20inch bikes well. Any guidance is appreciated!!

The Thule Passage Trunk Mounted 3 Bike Rack, # TH911XT, has arms which span 14 inches from center to center. In order to mount the 20 inch bike the top bar that extends from the seat post to the handlebars must be at least 15 inches. Depending on the slant of the bar, you may find it much easier to use an adapter bar like the Swagman Easy-Out, # 64005. This bar attaches between the seat post and the handlebar stem and allows the bike to be carried more evenly in the carrier while providing more ground clearance.

When it comes to trunk mounted bike carriers, my personal favorite, especially when transporting children's bikes, is the Thule OutWay, # TH56JV. The arms on this carrier are adjustable and rotate upward for added ground clearance and slide closer together which is great for kid's bikes. This rack only requires the top bar to be 6-1/2 inches. In addition, 2 braided steel cables with coated hooks are used to attach the rack firmly to your vehicle's trunk or rear hatch. These cables will last much longer than the nylon straps used on most carriers and are extremely easy to use which allow the rack to be installed or removed in a matter of seconds. The mounting cables are lockable and the rack also includes an integrated cable lock to deter theft. This rack would have no problem handing the thick frame of your vintage bike.
