The sway control bar that I recommend for you is the Reese Friction Sway Control Kit, # 83660 because it is our most popular and highest rated sway control bar. A weight distribution system is not required to use this kit, but it will work with a weight distribution system if you decide to add one at a later time. To use this kit without a weight distribution system, you would just want to add the sway control bracket # RP26003 to your existing ball mount.
If you want to add a weight distribution system, then the first step is to determine your total tongue weight. This includes the loaded and ready to tow tongue weight of your trailer plus the weight of any cargo loaded in the Durango behind the rear axle.
If you determine that your total tongue weight will be between 200lbs and 600lbs (which is likely), then you have a few options. If your total tongue weight is more or less, let me know.
Option 1 is to add the Reese Sway Control Kit now and add a weight distribution system later. For this situation I recommend the Reese Weight Distribution System, # RP66540. You will also want to add a hitch ball, part # A-90.
Option 2 is to add the weight distribution system and the sway control at the same time. For this you can purchase both of the items that I mentioned above, but I recommend stepping up to the Reese Steadi-Flex Weight Distribution System, # RP66558, because it has integrated sway control that is more effective than the bar style sway control. You want to add a hitch ball to this system as well, part # 63845. If you are having steering issues or rear end sag, I recommend adding weight distribution sooner rather than later.
I have attached a help article on weight distribution for you to check out if this is all new to you. If you have any other questions, just let me know.
