Hitch Cargo Carrier for a 2014 Ford Edge

Question:

I purchased a class III hidden hitch and the 24x60 etrailer Cargo Carrier for 2inch Hitches - Steel - Folding - 500 lbs # e98874 last year for my Ford Escape Titanium and it worked great. I just traded for a 2014 Ford Edge because we needed more room. The dealership as part of the deal installed a new hitch on my vehicle but they only carried and would warranty Fords Class II hitch because they said the vehicle would not rate for the class III. It appears very sturdy but I know just the etrailer basket seems heavy maybe around 80 lbs. I only plan to fill my ROLO bag bought from etrailer with a pop up tent, folding chairs, and then a few other items cooler etc. i dont suspect I would max out the 500 lb capacity of the basket. Is this Class II ok for this basket or do I need to find one of those cheap aluminum baskets that are very light? I dont know how much tongue wt by basket will cause but I think the new hitch is 350 tongue wt.

Now that you have a Class-II two inch receiver hitch from Ford on your new 2014 Ford Edge, I would double-check the maximum weight capacity it can handle.

If indeed it's 350 pounds, you will subtract the weight of the carrier at about 48 pounds and the remaining 302 pounds is the maximum cargo weight you can carry safely. You would not need an aluminum cargo carrier unless you plan on carrying more than 302 pounds.

I included a video review and informative article for you too.
