On the 2006 Ford F150 Super Crew 4X4 with tow package, one of the first things we recommend to do is always check the owners manual or car dealer for the GCVWR (Gross Combined Vehicle Weight Rating). Which is the maximum weight capacity of your truck, trailer, and contents combined. So you want to make sure to never exceed that figure.

The Reese Strait-Line Weight Distribution Hitch System 1,200lbs TW / 12,000 lbs GTW, # RP66074, is a great choice for your application. It gives you the Dual Cam Sway Control which is pro-active, which means it will stop sway before it even starts. The weight distribution system is designed for tongue weights between 600 - 1200 lbs. With your max gross weight of 7800 lbs., using the 10-15 per cent rule the tongue weight would be about 780 - 1170 lbs, so it fits perfectly in the middle of the weight range.

Also needed with the weight distribution system is a weight distribution shank and a hitch ball. I recommend the Reese Weight Distributing Shank, 14,000 lbs., # RP54970, and a Tow Ready Hitch Ball with 2-5/16 inch Diameter and Medium Shank, 12,000 lbs GTW - Chrome, # 19286.

I am sending you a link to the hitch system installation instructions and a video link about weight distribution and sway control.
