The recommended hardware kit for your 2000 Lexus RX300, part # C59496 includes a power lead wire that must be connected.
This is done so that the trailer does not pull power directly from the vehicle tail light circuits, and instead pulls directly from the battery, preventing an overload on your vehicle wiring.
If any of the trailer lights had a short circuit, the lights on your Lexus would not be damaged.
The installation would go as follows.
First, you will need to access the back side of your tail light assemblies, where the wires going to the signal bulbs are coming out. Then you would have a friend sit in the cab and activate the turn signals and press the brake pedal while you are testing the wires in the rear of the vehicle. For example, if your friend flips the right turn signal and you are testing a wire on your right tail light that flashes when the signal is applied, this would be your turn signal wire.
You would connect the wires from the converter as follows:
White: Ground wire, connected to a suitable grounding location on the vehicle frame.
Green: Right turn signal.
Yellow: Left turn signal.
Brown: Tail light.
Red: Brake light, if your vehicle has separate turn and tail lights, meaning that you have separate bulbs performing the two functions. If not needed, this wire would be grounded with the white wire.
The thicker red wire would be routed along your vehicle frame and secured with zip ties, then connected to the positive battery terminal under the hood with the included fuse between.
