Trailer Wiring Harness Recommendations for 2012 Hyundai Sonata
Question:
There seems to be 2 non hybrid trailer wiring products for my 2012 hyundai sonata. Which one do I need?

Both the Curt # C56049 and the Tow Ready # 118557 would work with your 2012 Sonata.
The primary difference between the two is that the Tow Ready model is a powered converter that obtains the power to drive the trailer taillights directly from the battery, instead of pulling the power through the taillight wiring. The converter obtains its switching signals from the taillight circuits only. This provides a more reliable power supply and another layer of protection for the vehicle wiring against any short circuits that might occur in the trailer wiring. This is the option I'd recommend.
The Curt model draws power through the taillight circuits to power the trailer taillights. The install would be easier since a separate wire isn't ran to the vehicle battery, but you would lose that extra protection offered by the independent power connection.
If you haven't decided on a hitch, I'd recommend the Draw-Tite Hitch #24965. The hitch will NOT work on vehicles manufactured in Korea.
You'll also need a trailer ball. For a 1-7/8 inch ball, use part # 19256 or # 19258. Your trailer coupler should have the ball size you need stamped into it.
I'll link you to an FAQ article that shows how to run that extra power wire to the battery.
