Recommended Brake Controller And Wiring For 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe
Question:
what do I need to install a brake control on my truck? does the 99 have the port under the dash or do I need the harness?

The brake controller I recommend for your 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe is the Tekonsha Prodigy P2, part # 90885. This is one of our most popular controllers because it is easy to install and operate. There is no quick adapter plug available for your Tahoe so you will need to hardwire the controller.
To install the brake controller, you first need a 4-way connector. If you do not have a 4-way, the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C55319 is the correct harness for you.
After the 4-way connector is installed, you need the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller, part # ETBC7. This will give you everything you need to install a 4-way and 7-way connector at the back of your Tahoe.
When installing these wiring harnesses, you need a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 to make sure you locate the correct wires.
I have attached links to a helpful article and a brake controller installation video you can check out.
