Installing Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch and Pro-Series Cargo Carrier for 2012 Subaru Legacy Dual Exhaust
Question:
Good morning, I am very interested in buying read, ready to buy the Draw-Tite hitch part 36493 and cargo basket part 63155 for my 2012 Legacy 3.6 but wanted to ensure that it will clear the dual exhaust. I have all the tools and mechanical know-how to install it, but omitting the passenger side exhaust is something that I would rather not do. when you have a moment, could a member of your team please let me know if there are any issues other than trimming two heat shields with installing this hitch on a dual exhaust 2012 Legacy? thank you!

The Draw-Tite 1-1/4 inch Class II receiver hitch # 36493 will fit your 2012 Subaru Legacy with dual exhaust and can handle a Pro Series cargo carrier # 63155.
Lowering the dual exhaust is necessary to install the trailer hitch as well as trimming the heat shield a bit. Those are the only two things necessary as you install the Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 36493.
If you don't have your mind set on the trailer hitch and cargo carrier above, another option to consider is going with a Class-III trailer hitch instead of a Class-II. I recommend the Class-III hitch because it has a 2-inch receiver opening and will allow for more gear to be carried. Going with a 2-inch receiver is most common and will be compatible with more hitch mounted accessories.
With that said, the trailer hitch I recommend for your 2012 Legacy is the Class-III Draw-Tite # 75673 because it has a 600 pound tongue weight capacity.
The cargo carrier # 63153 by Pro-Series will work with 2-inch trailer hitch receivers and has a weight capacity of 500 pounds.
It a good idea to double-check your owners manual to determine the maximum tongue weight of your 2012 Subaru Legacy 3.6 and stay within the weight limitations.
