Installation of a Prodigy P2 Brake Controller on a 2012 Ram 2500 HD with a Factory Brake Controller
Question:
I own a 2012 RAM 2500 Heavy Duty with a factory installed brake controller that apparently does not work as it locks up the trailer brakes when I push on the vehicle brake no matter what the gain setting is on the controller. I am thinking about purchasing the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 and need to know if the plug-in wiring adapter part # 3021-P will work with my vehicle and how to install it as well as disconnecting the factory installed brake controller.

The Prodigy P2 # 90885 is one of our most popular brake controllers we currently offer and the custom plug-in wiring adapter # 3021-P will work with your 2012 Ram 2500. You simply plug one end of the adapter into your brake controller and the other end into the built-in harness beneath your dash.
I would consider going with the P3 # 90195 because it has a LCD display and it will be very user friendly. It's not much more in price either.
I included an installation video on a 2013 Ram (P3 controller) so you could see a similar vehicle installation. Also take a look at the informative articles too.
If you are wanting to replace your factory brake controller, you will want to contact your local dealer to disconnect the ITBM (Integrated Trailer Brake Module). Contacting the dealer will allow them to disconnect the warning lamp on your instrument cluster.
