Can a 250 Pound Honda Scooter Be Carried on the Back of a 2006 Mercury Mountaineer
Question:
I have a Mercury Mountaineer 2006 with 2 inch hitch but I think that is class 2. Can a Honda Elite 1994 scooter estimated weight is 250 lbs be carried on this rack safely? Any recommendations.

I have heard from other customers that Ford/Mercury has a 2 inch trailer hitch (the opening is 2 inches) but calls it a Class II. But if the opening is 2 inches wide then a 2 inch accessory will fit. But to use the Ultra-Fab carrier # UF48-979033 the trailer hitch would have to have a tongue weight capacity of at least 500 pounds. The hitch on your 2006 Mercury Mountaineer is likely rated for 350 pounds tongue weight at most.
All of the motorcycle carriers have a similar requirement so they wouldn't work for you. What will work is to put the Honda Scooter on a small trailer and tow the scooter. This is actually much safer and puts much less stress on the vehicle and hitch.
If you find a trailer then you will then just need the items to tow that trailer. You already have a hitch so you will need a ball mount with the right rise or drop needed to tow the trailer level, a ball for the coupler on the trailer, and trailer wiring harness on the vehicle.
For a ball mount for this vehicle we usually recommend # 2923. It has a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop. If the ball mount kit does not have the right rise or drop to tow the trailer level, use the link I have included that explains how to measure to choose a ball mount to tow the trailer level.
The ball mount to choose should have balls that will fit it in the related products section of the ball mount page. For example for ball mount # C45010 the 2 inch ball that fits is # 63845 and the 1-7/8 inch ball is # 19260.
And for trailer wiring, if your Mercury doesn't already have a trailer connector, use # 18252. this is a hardwire installation. I have linked a video that shows the process of figuring out how to install the harness that can be used as a guide.
