How Much Clearance is Needed Between Pan-Type Transmission Cooler and Crossover Exhaust

Question:

hi, im looking to put this pan in my motorhome but looks like the cross over pipe is going to be right in front of the cooling tubes. there should be clearance but it will be close to the tube ends. will the HOT exaust pipe help heat the fluid instead of cool it in this configuration. dont want to move exaust.

Thank you for including the photo showing the 2-inch or so of clearance between your transmission fluid pan and the crossover exhaust in your motorhome.

You do not need to worry about the proximity of the pipe to the pan. The cooling power of this pan-type cooler comes from two sources: the air circulation through its turbulator tubes AND the additional fluid capacity it adds to your system- a whopping 4-1/2 quarts of additional transmission fluid. You will still have plenty of air (air that's cooler than your fluid temperature) flowing through the cooler, plus you'll have the additional heat dissipation capacity from the extra fluid in the system.

If you like you can wrap some heat-resistant exhaust tape around the pipe where its close to the cooler or even fabricate a home-brew heat shield from sheet metal to isolate the pipe from the cooler. I suggest tape since it will tend to block air flow less than an additional piece of metal wrapped around the pipe.
