Like you said, the SC error indicates a short. If your 2012 Toyota Tundra came with a factory 7-Way make sure you are using wiring harness # HM47815. If hardwired in then you will need to make sure that the black wire is attached to the positive battery terminal via a 20 or 30 amp circuit breaker, white has to be connected to the negative battery terminal (no other ground location will work), blue is output to the trailer brakes, and red is input from the brake switch.

The red wire connection could be the issue. It needs to go to the brake switch wire that shows power only when the brake pedal is pressed and not at any other time, such as with the turn signals or headlights on. This of course only applies if the brake controller is hardwired in.

Also make sure that the main brake controller box is oriented correctly. Orientation of the Smart-Box Mount should be where [SIDE A] of the Smart-Box mounts against the kick panel or center console. You don't want to have it tilted or turned.

Also make sure the vehicle and trailer side connectors are clean and free of corrosion inside and out. I have included a couple of links on testing and troubleshooting brake controllers.
