For a 1996 Ford F-150 with a standard or step bumper the most popular hitch option is # C15300. It is considered a Class V hitch but has the more common 2 inch receiver. It is rated for 2,400 pounds of tongue weight and 16,000 pounds gross trailer weight (17,000 when used with weight distribution). This likely exceeds the capacity of the truck but check the owners manual for the trucks capacity and, if lower, go by the lower rating.

Since you will be doing some towing I recommend etrailer ball mount kit # EBMK2416. It comes with a ball mount with a 3 inch rise or 4 inch drop, a 2 inch ball, a 2-5/16 inch ball, hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag.

If the ball mount kit does not have the right rise or drop to tow the trailer level, use the link I have included that explains how to measure to choose a ball mount to tow the trailer level.

If your truck has the deep drop bumper the most popular hitch is # BWHDRH25198. The recommended ball mount is # BWBMHD30010. For a 2 inch ball use # A-90 and for a 2-5/16 inch ball use # BWHB94050.

And to add trailer wiring use # 118316. I have linked a video showing how the wiring installs.
