How to Pick Out a Weight Distribution System for a 2015 Nissan Frontier towing Travel Trailer

Question:

I have a 2015 nissan frontier with a tow rating of 6200 and have a travel trailer that weights about 4500 when full and I would like a good weight distribution hitch and you just have too many to choose from, can you help me decide on a model?

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You will want the loaded tongue weight of your setup to fall right in the middle of the tongue weight range of the system you use.

Typically tongue weight is 10-15 percent of the total trailer weight so you would most likely have a tongue weight of between 450 and 675 lbs. For this tongue weight range I would recommend the Strait Line System part # RP66083 which has a tongue weight range of 400 lbs - 800 lbs and features the only sway control system on the market that works to prevent sway before it starts.
