What is the Difference Between the Original Primus and the Primus IQ Brake Controllers
Question:
I saw your post here stating that there is only one Primus brake controller. The person asking the question is right. There is a Primus brake controller and a Primus IQ. Im assuming the IQ is the newer version. The only visual difference I can see is that standard Primus has a blue lever on the right side as youre looking at it from the front that the Primus IQ does not have. Other than that, they look the same. Im also wondering what the differences are.

There is only one Primus brake controller. There was a previous generation, this is true, 39515, discontinued in April 2010.
The Primus IQ, # TK90160, has the same internal parts as the original Prodigy, 90185. Both Primus controllers use an accelerometer to detect deceleration. The newest one, the IQ, has a boost feature and works proportionally in reverse.
The boost feature increases the initial amount of braking power and has 3 levels depending on the weight of the trailer being towed. A handy feature especially if you tow more than 1 trailer.
