Installing Brake Controller on 2007 Jeep Liberty and Life Span of Car Tie Down Kit # 08504-05
Question:
I was looking at your Prodogy P3 for my 2007 Jeep Liberty. My Liberty has a factory installed tow package and I found a small gray connector under my dash. Is the 3045-P the correct adaptor harness? Also I was looking at your 10K car straps 08504-05. How often do you need to replace car straps? I dont have a set and need to get some, just wondering if the straps have a date code to tell when not to use, or if I should date them or just visually inspect them before use? Thanks

When it comes to installing the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller, # 90195, in your 2007 Jeep Liberty, you will need to do a little bit of hardwiring even though it is equipped with the tow package.
You'll first want to start out by locating a light blue wire that is taped to the wiring harness behind the driver's kick panel. This is where you will connect the blue wire on the brake controller. Next, the white wire on the controller is the ground and will need to go to the negative battery terminal. The red wire will connect to the cold side of the brake switch, the wire that only shows a signal when the brake pedal is pressed. I recommend using a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to locate this wire. Final step is connecting the black wire to the positive battery terminal via a circuit breaker. You can use an installation kit like # 5506 which includes a 20-, 30-, and 40-amp breaker.
The gray connector under your dash is for another accessory, not the brake controller, so part # TK93VR would not work for you.
Now for the Car Tie Down Kit, # 08504-05. Although Erickson stamps the manufactured date on their product, this cannot be used for tracking its life span. The strap's life span will depend on many things including amount of usage and conditions of usage. You will want to check the straps carefully before each use and replace if torn or there is any damage to the webbing.
