The hitches offered for your 2015 Mercedes Benz ML400 are the 2-inch Class III type which is what is required for the etrailer cargo carrier # e98874. This folding carrier provides 9-1/2 inches of clearance from the hitch pin hole to the nearest part of the carrier when folded up, and 19-1/2 inches when in the down position.
You can easily compare this to the clearance required by the back bumper on your ML400 by taking one simple measurement. Measure from the hitch pin hole to the rear-most part of the vehicle; this will tell you how much clearance you require. You can refer to the linked article for details on taking this dimension.
Please note that your hitch will have a tongue weight (TW) rating indicated on its safety sticker. For a Class III hitch this is typically 500 to 525 lbs. This is most downward force that can be applied to the hitch. Also check your vehicle owner's manual for the vehicle's TW rating, which could be more or less than the hitch's. The lower-rated item - hitch or car - determines the overall capacity. Lets say your manual indicates a 500-lb TW rating. This will mean that after you subtract the 48-lb weight of the carrier itself that you can then safely load up to 452-lbs of actual cargo weight.
