Can Kuat Bike Rack Hitch Lock # KUATLOCK be Used to Lock B&W Companion 5th-Wheel Hitch # BWRVK3300

Question:

Hello, We have the BandW Companion™ OEM 5th Wheel Hitch for Ford Part Number: RVK3300. I would like to find a lock to use in the pin for the coupler latch arm to replace the safety pin so that no one will remove the pin and unlatch the trailer will parked overnight. Do you know the size and a recommended pin lock to use? Would the Kuat lock # KUATLOCK work and could it be used on both the arm and the hitch head?

I spoke with my contact at B&W to get a couple measurements. On the Companion OEM 5th-Wheel Hitch, # BWRVK3300, the hole diameter for the saddle pin measures 5/8" and spans 3-1/2". The hole diameter for the cam handle pin measures 3/8" with an approximate span of 1-1/4".

Since the Kuat Bike Rack Hitch Lock, # HL1, is designed to fit 3/8" hitch pin holes with a span of 3-1/2", it looks like this lock will work for you in both locations.

Two things you will want to keep in mind. Since this lock was not designed for this application, we can not guarantee it's level of theft prevention and B&W does require that the pins be replaced, locks removed, for towing.
