Roof Rack and Kayak Carrier Recommendation for a 2015 Honda CRV with Naked Roof

Question:

I have a 2015 Honda CRV with a naked roof. Im looking for a roof rack that will carry my 16foot canoe that is 38inch wide and weighs 75 lbs. I can carry the canoe on my shoulders and using a step stool, slide it onto the roof rack. I think I need a fairly smooth surface on the top of the cross bars to allow the edge of the canoe to slide over when Im loading it onto the rack. What rack would you recommend? What is the spacing between the cross members? More spacing is better given the length of the canoe. What are the available bar widths? Thanks for your help.

First let's start with a roof rack for your 2015 Honda CR-V that has a naked roof.

For a rack that has a smooth top that would allow kayaks to slide onto easily I would go with the Rhino Rack Roof Rack part numbers # RRVA137B-2, # RRRLKVA, and # DK284. The crossbar spread will be 29-1/2 inches.

For a kayak carrier that would work well for you I would recommend the Rhino Rack J-Style Carrier part # S512 because it will work well for carrying your kayak and is designed for the roof rack I also recommended.
