Installing Trailer Valet # STC-V211 on Trailer Frame that is Too Narrow for Supplied Hardware

Question:

My boat and the trailer that I am mounting the trailer valet to is not quite wide enough for the bolts that come with the trailer valet, I need to shorten the bolts up by approx. 1/4 inch, what is the size of the bolts and are they stainless steel?

Expert Reply:

If your trailer frame is a bit too small for you to mount the bracket of Trailer Valet # STC-V211 then what I suggest is to simply use a steel spacer plate to take up that slack, rather than use different hardware. Keeping the original hardware avoids any question about strength and compatibility and the extra material at the valet's attachment point will provide reinforcement for the trailer frame. Your local hardware store will have what you need and most likely the cost for the steel plate(s) will be less than the cost of new grade 5 stainless steel hardware.
