Brake Controller and 7-Way Recommendation for a 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan

Question:

I am upgrading my tow vehicles standard 4-flat wiring connector due to my new camper having a Bargman 7-way plug. I ordered part# HM48470 - Hopkins Endurance Multi-Tow 7-, 5- and 4-Way Flat Trailer Connector - Vehicle End - Ergonomic Design. Please tell me what I need to add the 2 extra lines AUX is not in use on my camper One line is the brake line. Does everything I need come with your brake controllers? And which brake controller do you recommend for a 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan Pulling a 3000 lbs. pop-up camper? What are the different options and functions? Second line is the battery charge line. What do I need to connect this line so the camper battery will charge while tow vehicle is running? And where does it connect to on the vehicles electric system to provide the power? Do I need an isolator? Not really sure what it is, but hear people talking about them online. Please steer me to a complete answer. I need to do this mod before I can go pickup my new camper from the dealer.

The absolute easiest way to upgrade your 4-way to a 7-way would be to return the part # HM48470 and get the part number # ETBC7 instead. This comes with absolutely everything needed to upgrade the 4-way and make it fully functional, including the installation of a brake controller and running the power line to use for maintenance charging the battery of your trailer. A brake controller by itself would not come with everything needed to install in a vehicle.

I attached an install video that details exactly how the # ETBC7 will install on a very similar 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan like yours plus a set of install instructions.

For a brake controller I would recommend the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller part # 90885. This is our best selling brake controller because of how well it works and how easy it is to setup. This controller is proportional which means that it can sense how much braking your tow vehicle is applying and will apply the same amount to your trailer.

If you wanted to make the charge line of the 7-way only active when the vehicle is turned on you will also need the Isolation Solenoid part # PK5231201. This will install in line with the charge line with the copper posts being used to attach to the charge line and the center post getting run to a circuit that only is active when the key is on. Such as a radio or power antenna circuit.
