Base Plate, Tow Bar and Accessories Needed to Flat Tow 2014 Chevy Equinox Behind Motorhome

Question:

Needed items to tow my 2014 chev equinox. I does indicate it is flat towable except for the fuse removal. I would like to know if the following would be good choice? BX1689 tow mounting bracket BX7420 tow bar, or is BX7365 better? RM-155 for lighting. SMI SM99251 for supplemental brakes? RM 76511 for fuse bypass. May need stop light switch? Please let me know what you would suggest instead of the above. Thanks

It sounds like you have a good handle on exactly what you need. The Blue Ox # BX1689 base plates you mention are exactly what I'd choose. I've found BlueOx base plates to be very well engineered and easy to use. The primary difference between the Blue Ox Alpha # BX7380 and the Avail, part # BX7420 tow bars is the capacity. The Alpha with its 6500 lb capacity would be just fine for the weight of your Equinox, unless you were planning on going with a heavier vehicle and the future and feel the 10,000 lb capacity of the Avail tow bar would come in handy later on.

The Roadmaster # RM-155 bulb and socket kit would work just fine for you.

The SMI Stay-In-Play Duo # SM99251 braking system would be an excellent choice.

The # RM76511 would be a great choice for the fuse bypass, and a stoplight switch is not needed.

I've linked you to an install video for the base plates and the braking system you referred to. I've also linked you to some flat towing FAQ articles.
