Brake Controller Wiring Needed For Trailer Towing with a 2010 Toyota Highlander
Question:
Will 3040-P work on my 2010 toyota highlander with the Tekonsha P-3 controller?

Expert Reply:
Along with the Tekonsha P-3 Trailer Brake Controller, item # 90195, you will need to do some wiring. The 2010 Toyota Highlander does not have a connector under the dash for the Tekonsha Wire Replacement for Toyota and Lexus Vehicles, item # 3040-P.
In addition to the brake controller you will need a 4-Way connector. The Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring, item # 118449, is the correct harness for your Highlander. You will also need the Brake Controller 7 & 4 Way Installation Kit, item # ETBC7, to complete the wiring for the brake feed wire and the power wire to the 7-Way trailer connector. We have a brake controller installation page and videos of the installation you will need to do (see links). I have also added links to the instructions for the P-3 and the # 118449 wiring harness for you to review prior to installation.
