Recommended Weight Distribution System for Towing Trailer Loaded Weighing 7,740 Pounds Towed by F150

Question:

I have a 2014 Ford F-150 with the 5.0 engine supercab and tow package. I want to tow my 26 foot travel trailer. Its curb weight is 6458 with a carry capacity of 1282. hitch weight at 740. I was looking at the curt weight distribution hitch C17322 would you recommend this unit or a different one?

To choose a weight distribution system you will need to go by the total tongue weight of the set up. This is calculated by taking the tongue weight of the trailer, when loaded and ready to tow, and adding to that the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. The most important rating to use when matching up a weight distribution system is the actual tongue weight.

The weight distribution I recommend is the Reese Steadi-Flex weight distribution with sway control # RP66560. It will include a 13 inch shank and the maximum rise is 8-3/4 inches, maximum drop is 4 inches, from the top of the hitch receiver opening. The gross towing weight is 12,000 pounds and tongue weight is 600 to 1,200 pounds. You will just need to add a properly sized ball, # A-90 for a 2 inch or # 19286 for a 2-5/16 inch.

The Curt weight distribution with sway control # C17322 you referenced will work fine too. It has a gross towing weight of 10,000 pounds and maximum tongue weight of 1,000 pounds. It will also include a 2-5/16 hitch ball. The 2-inch hitch ball (sold separately) is # A-90.
