Running 12V Wire To Rear Of Vehicle To Power Digital Sign
Question:
How many amps does a typical SUV or pickup trailer wiring harness support? I have a special tailgating accessory uses 2.2 amps that Id like to connect to the trailer power connector, but I want to make sure I wont burn up the trucks wiring harness. It’s a digital advertising sign that mounts to the receiver hitch of an SUV or pickup truck and receives updated ads over the Internet.

Since you said you are pulling 2.2 amps using a 12V system for your digital advertising sign on the back of your vehicle, you should not have any issues with the wiring on your truck or Suv. With the power draw you said you need it sounds like you may be using LED lights which draw considerably less power than incandescent lights.
Depending on the wiring for the sign you will need to get the power from the battery back to the sign. You can use a 7-way harness on the back of your vehicle to provide the power needed for the sign with no problem. If you want to let me know the year, make, and model of your vehicle, I can make a recommendation that will work for you.
If you have a 4-way adapter at the back you can use an adapter like part # 30717. You simply plug it into the 4-way on your vehicle and then run the black wire with a breaker like part # 9506P to the battery for a 12V power source. You can cap the yellow and the blue wire if they are not to be used.
