Will Using an Edge Tuner with Cold Air Intake Cause a Lean Condition on a 2011 F-150 5.0L

Question:

Hello. I have read on some forums about an edge tuner and cold air intake causing a lean condition. I have found answers to some motors like the 5.4 but nothing for the 5.0. I would appreciate any advice on this subject. The changes I have made from stock include edge cs tuner flowmaster super 40 cat back exhaust kandn cold air intake bosch iridium spark plugs If custom tuning is required, where can I get such data? Thanks in advance!!

Edge does have a warning in the owner's manuals for their programmers warning against "stacking" performance products. They do not specify any particular years, makes, models, or engines so it could affect any vehicle.

In the case of cold air intake when used with a programmer it can cause an overly lean condition and damage the motor. If you already had the CAI installed for a while and then installed a programmer it is less likely that there would be any problems.

You should be able to tell if the truck is not getting enough fuel in the air/fuel ratio because it just would not run right at all. If you are unsure you could always take the truck to a performance shop and ask them to test the truck to make sure it is not running overly lean when you are using pre-set tunes above the stock or transmission only tunes.
