Weight Distribution for 2015 Chevy Colorado and Trailer that is Low to the Ground
Question:
Hi, I have a 2015 Chevy Colorado and just bought a White Water Retro 155 travel trailer. The 155 is small tongue weight at 300 lbs and 1840 lbs dry weight. I tried to get the trailer level by using a 5.25 inch receiver and it still is not quite level should be ped another inch or two. Looking at your product 49585, it looks like the bars ride under the trailer. Im afraid I wont have any ground clearance at all if I do so as diagrammed. The 155 sits about 12 inches off the ground when level. Can the 49585 system be flipped over for applications like mine?

On a chain hanging weight distribution system the bars would have to be lower than the bottom of the trailer frame or they would make contact with the frame when making tight turns.
Using the Fastway # FA92-00-0450 the bars would not be quite as low but still lower than you would like.
You could raise the height of the trailer either by using an over/under conversion kit or by removing the existing suspension hangers and having new, taller ones welded on.
To use an over/under conversion kit you would have to have double-eye suspension that is mounted under the axle. For a 2-3/8 inch round axle you would use # K71-384-00. For a 3 inch round axle you would use # K71-385-00. These would provide a few inches more height.
For hangers I have included a link to the hanger main page. There are hangers for double-eye and slipper spring suspension. Raising the height of a trailer also raises its center of gravity and makes the trailer more susceptible to sway.
