Parts Needed to Tow a Trailer with Electric Brakes with a 2001 Ford E-350 Van With Factory 7-Way

Question:

I have picked up a covered trailer with electric brakes, my 01 Van has a 7 point trailer light hook-up, factory installed. I'm told I need to install a Brake Relay in order for the van to operate the electric brakes on the trailer...what relay do I need and where is it installed? Is this something I can do myself?

If your 7-way was installed at the factory, you should not need any additional relay, but you will definitely need a brake controller.

For an easy installation on your 2001 Ford E-350 van, I would recommend using the brake controller # 90885.
