Bike Cover Recommendation for Use with Curt Hitch Bike Rack 18019 on Casita Travel Trailer

Question:

I have a CURT-Manufacturing-18019-Bike-Rack on the back of my 2012 Casita Travel Trailer. I typically carry two at the most mountain bikes. Which bike cover would you recommend ? Thanks

For a bike cover I can suggest the Swagman Bike Cover for RVs - Large - 2 Bikes, part # S24FR, that features water-resistant coated nylon construction and built-in cinch straps to reduce wind lofting.

Hitch-mount bike racks for use on the rear of a trailer like your Casita are designed specially in order to handle the additional stresses found at the rear of a towed trailer. These stresses will possibly damage a bike rack that is intended for use on the back of a car. Much in the same way as a seat at the rear of a roller coaster or school bus will get a rougher ride than seats that are up front, any item inserted into a hitch on the back of a trailer will be subjected to more vertical and lateral stress.

Your Curt bike rack 18019 is NOT designed for use on the back of a trailer. I verified this with my technical contact at Curt. The rack you have is intended for use on the back of a car only so I advise you to stop using it on your trailer for safety reasons.

The link provided will show you our range of 2-inch hitch racks that are suitable for use on the back of a trailer. We offer options in both hanging style racks like your Curt as well as platform types.
