Cushioned Ball Mount for Use in 2014 Ford F-150 Factory 2-Inch Hitch Receiver

Question:

I am interested in a cushioned trailer hitch to use with my 2014 F150 FX4. The truck has a factory trailer hitch receiver. The hitch is 3/4foot and 2inch . Interested in a 2 inch ball to use with it. Is stainless steel best for the ball?

All of the aftermarket hitches we offer for your 2014 Ford F-150 also have the same 2-inch size receiver tube and this is the size that is compatible with the cushioned ball mount you referenced, Convert-A-Ball # AMSC4.

When choosing a ball mount you need to match the size, of course, but also the Class Rating (Class IV or Class V for the hitches we offer). You also want to choose a ball mount that has the correct amount of rise or drop to allow your trailer's frame to remain level with the ground when it is hitched to your truck. This is important to safe trailer handling. I have linked for you an article that covers all of the considerations when choosing a ball mount.

I also linked you to our main page for cushioned ball mounts. You can use the filters on the page to narrow the displayed results based on your preferences. If you want a fixed-type cushioned ball mount you can use the filters to select one with the right amount of rise or drop for your truck and trailer. You also have options for various lengths of ball mount.

Let's say the top of your trailer coupler (when the trailer frame is level with the ground) sits 8-inches lower than your truck's hitch ball. In such as case you could use Convert-A-Ball cushioned ball mount # AMSC8 that has 8-inches of drop.

If you cannot find a fixed ball mount with the required rise or drop you might use an adjustable type such as # CAB-UM.

As with ball mounts, hitch balls must be chosen to match your Class rating and trailer weight. With the above-referenced AMSC8 ball mount you can use 2-inch ball # 40038 or for a 1-7/8-inch ball part # 19260. This are chrome-plated steel balls and they will provide excellent corrosion resistance.
