When choosing a transmission cooler, the first thing to consider is the size of the cooler. The larger the cooler, the better the cooling performance will be. The next thing to consider is the mounting location. I have attached a drawing that shows the best mounting locations on a vehicle.
The transmission cooler I recommend for your 2001 Chevrolet S-10 with the 2.2 engine is the Derale Transmission Cooler, part # D13503. This plate-fin cooler measures 11 inches Wide x 8-3/4 inches tall x 7/8 inch deep. I have attached a drawing of this cooler with the dimensions and mounting locations noted. When installing this cooler you will also need a radiator adapter part # D13035.
