Availability of Ski Rack Compatible with 2015 Hyundai Genesis with Panoramic Sunroof
Question:
Is there any ski rack that will work with the very large sunroof on this new model? I can tolerate either a roof or trunk type. I need to be able to get gear for total of 3 people , driver + 2 riders. Dealer said nothing will work...........Can this be true in the USA?

A sun roof can pose a challenge to compatibility of roof-mount accessory items like roof racks and bike and ski carriers. This is because a sun roof will cause a vehicle's roof weight-carrying capacity to be substantially reduced.
A better option is to install a hitch and use a hitch-mount carrier for your skis. If you have the Coupe version we do offer a light-duty 1-1/4-inch Class I trailer hitch from Curt, their part # C11086. This hitch bolts on using included hardware. Any accessory used in this hitch also requires use of Curt's Stabilizing Strap # 18050 without which you may void your hitch warranty.
Once the hitch is in place you can select a compatible Class I bike rack (yes, a bike rack) and with it use an add-on ski carrier. Thule offers their Tram Ski and Snowboard Carrier Adapter for Hitch-Mounted Bike Racks # TH9033 that can be used along with one of their compatible hitch-mount bike racks, such as the Hitching Post Pro # TH934XTR, which is USA-made, and like the Tram, protected by Thule's limited lifetime warranty.
You will need to determine the total weight of the skis you need to transport. The Hitching Post Pro has a weight capacity of 140-lbs, against which the Tram ski carrier's approximate 25-lb weight will apply, leaving you a remaining capacity of 115-lbs for your skis. So long as your 4 pairs of skis do not exceed this available cargo weight limit this combination of hitch, rack and ski carrier will be among your best and safest options. And you get a bike rack in the bargain!
