Brake Controller and Wiring Adapter for 2006 LX470 with Factory Tow Package
Question:
Hi, I have a 2006 Lexus LX470 with factory tow package. Is my 2006 LX470 come with a factory installed brake controller? If not, what type of brake controller is best for my LX470 and harness? I also have a break away brake box on my trailer. Can I use a brake controller with a break away box on the trailer?

The 2006 Lexus LX470 was not equipped with a factory brake controller. The Tekonsha P-3, part # 90195 that you looked at would be a great choice for you. Brake controllers are not vehicle specific, you can use any brake controller on virtually any vehicle. The P-3 is an excellent unit because of its diagnostic features and its user interface that is easy to read and understand. The P-3 is a proportional type controller which features an internal sensor that can determine how quickly and at what intensity the tow vehicle is braking. It will then send the appropriate amount of voltage to the trailer brakes so that the vehicle and trailer stop at the same rate. This is beneficial because having the braking action balanced between the vehicle and trailer saves wear and tear on both braking systems.
You will also need the Brake Controller Wiring Adapter, part # 3040-P. The adapter would plug into the connector under the dash near the emergency brake pedal, the other end of the adapter plugs into the P-3.
You can certainly use the brake controller with the break away box on your trailer. The break away box will only come into play if the trailer should break loose from the vehicle. The brake controller will have no effect on its operation.
