Friction Sway Control for a 2013 Ford Expedition Towing a 7,000 Pound Travel Trailer

Question:

I have a 27 around 7,000 # foot travel trailer i am pulling with a 2013 Expedition. I have a weight distribution hitch made by Reese that i use. But i still notice a little sway in high winds. Can i use the Reese Friction Sway Control Kit in conjunction with the weight distribution hitch.

Weight distribution by itself offers little in terms of sway control. Adding a friction style sway bar such as # 83660 will help. But 2 of then are recommended for trailers that weigh more that 6,000 pounds. I have linked a video of this kit for you.

The best defense against trailer sway is proper loading of the trailer. If possible, keep the tongue weight at 10 to 15 percent of the gross trailer weight. Moving weight around is not always possible on a travel trailer but it can help.
