Expert Reply:
The T-1 Vehicle Wiring Harness, part # 118407 is designed for towing a trailer behind a 2007 Chevy HHR. It will not work for towing behind an RV, because the harness is designed for output only.
To light your HHR while it is towed behind your RV, you have three alternatives. You can use a magnetic mount lighting system, like part # RM-2120. This system is very easy to install and use. It also remains completely independent of the towed vehicles wiring system. For occasional towing, or for those who want maximum ease of use, this system is a great choice.
The next choice is to use lamps that would install into the taillight assemblies of your HHR, like part # RM-155. The bulbs would remain permanently installed into the taillight assemblies, but the wiring would still remain independent of the vehicle wiring. The installation is a bit more involved than the magnetic mount lighting systems, but its still pretty simple.
The final alternative would be to tap directly into the lighting circuits of your HHR, using part # RM-154. This system is great for a vehicle that will be towed frequently. This install is a bit more involved than the above mentioned choices, but the product description for part # RM-154 includes easy to understand wiring diagrams that will provide assistance.
