Fifth Wheel and Gooseneck Towing Options for 2009 Silverado 2500

Question:

I'm mainly planning on towing a fifth wheel, but will need to tow a gooseneck trailer every now and then. What would you recommend for a 2009 Silverado 2500 8 ft bed?

Lets begin with the fifth wheel hitch install kit. I'd recommend the # RP50064-58 custom install kit, which will save you almost half the install time versus the # RP30035 universal install Kit.

Choosing the hitch with the correct jaw set-up is important to an enjoyable towing experience. An entry level hitch that uses a dual jaw like the # RP30047 will do the job, but the loose fit will allow the king pin to rattle around in the hitch jaw, which will make for an unpleasant ride.

To tow your gooseneck trailers, simply remove the fifth wheel hitch and install a gooseneck plate like part # 16055. The plate will pin directly to your fifth wheel rails.

If you don't already have the 7-way connector installed in your truck bed, you can install one using part # 50-97-410. I've linked you to install videos for the hitch install kit and the in-bed wiring.
