Best Way to Adapt a 7-Way Trailer Connector to a 5-Pole Round
Question:
My truck has a 7 blade plug and my trailer has a 5 pin round not a flat What is the best way to adapt it or should I replace the 5 round with a 5 flat?

Replacing the connector on your trailer is probably the best way to go here.
The connector you use will depend on what the extra circuit on the trailer does. If it is a boat trailer, and the extra pin operates the lock-out on a hydraulic brake coupler, using a 5-pole flat, part # 20017 along with a 7-way to 5-pole adapter like part # A75TB would be your best bet. If the extra circuit serves a different purpose, you would probably want to install a 7-way trailer connector, part # H20046 for an 8 foot length or part # H20042 for a 3 foot length. Match up the lighting functions according to the table shown on the product description, and attach the extra circuit so that it matches up with the appropriate pin on the trailer connector. The rest of the connections that you do not need can be taped off.
If you use the 7-way connector on the trailer, you will not have to use an adapter.
